BEIJING (The Rusty Trumpet) — Donald Trump aka Sweet Potato Hitler concluded a high-stakes summit in Beijing on Wednesday by unveiling a novel metric for U.S.-China relations: the total number of Chinese restaurants in the United States, which he claimed now surpasses the combined total of the nation’s five largest fast food chains.
The president presented the figure during a joint appearance with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, calling it proof of an unbreakable cultural bond. “Chinese restaurants in America today outnumber the five largest fast food chains in the United States,” the former president said, pausing for applause that never came. “That’s a pretty big stat.”
According to a White House fact sheet released after the meeting, there are approximately 41,000 Chinese restaurants in the U.S., compared to 13,200 locations for McDonald’s, Subway, Starbucks, KFC, and Burger King combined. The administration has now adopted the ratio as its primary indicator of bilateral health. A new Office of Culinary Diplomacy will track the number quarterly.
“The president views every egg roll and every paper carton of lo mein as a pillar of our strategic partnership,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt explained during a briefing. “The data speaks for itself. We are bound together by takeout menus.”
Xi Jinping, for his part, spent the summit outlining plans to accelerate China’s military modernization and warning that any move toward Taiwanese independence would be met with “resolute countermeasures.” His remarks received a 72-minute standing ovation in Chinese state media but went largely unmentioned in the president’s subsequent Truth Social posts, which focused on the quality of the Peking duck at the state dinner.
The former president also repeatedly praised Xi as a “great leader,” a compliment the Chinese leader did not return. Footage later released by the White House showed Xi seated expressionlessly as the former president explained how the popularity of orange chicken reflected shared values.
At home, the Senate held a tense hearing on defense spending the same day. Lawmakers grilled officials on a request for an additional $1.5 trillion for the military budget. A senior Pentagon official called the sum “necessary to protect our access to egg rolls.” The administration did not respond to a request for comment. A follow-up inquiry was placed on a 90-day review schedule pending budget approval.
