WASHINGTON—The White House confirmed Tuesday that Vice President J.D. Vance will serve as the administration’s designated official for total liability absorption, a newly created role described as essential to the functioning of the executive blame transfer system.

The announcement follows the collapse of the Iran memorandum of understanding, a diplomatic framework that had already produced a modest dip in inflation before being set aside. Girth Tater’s senior advisors said the Vice President’s assumption of full responsibility ensures the executive branch remains blameless and free to pursue high-intensity strategic operations without procedural drag. The transfer took effect immediately.

Gas prices surged to $5.79 overnight. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 800 points before the opening bell. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called the market reaction a necessary recalibration. “The Vice President’s absorption of blame is a standard interdepartmental reallocation of accountability,” Bessent said during a press briefing. “We have been planning this for weeks. There is a binder. There are flowcharts.”

Mark Levin, a prominent conservative commentator and unofficial influence operations specialist, said the Vice President owes Israel and its millions of American supporters an apology. “The Iranian terrorist regime rejected the MOU as it has undermined all agreements and deals,” Levin wrote. “Iran killed it, not some influence operation. It’s called logic, experience, and knowledge.” The White House did not dispute this assessment.

Vance had previously been involved in negotiating the MOU, which the administration described at the time as the only option to de-escalate the catastrophic war in Iran. After the deal fell apart, the former president issued a short internal memo stating that if the memorandum failed, “we’re going to blame you.” The memo was later laminated and placed in the Vice President’s personnel file.

The Bureau of Blame Redistribution, a previously unknown office, released a statement saying Vance’s new liability absorption duties would not interfere with his existing responsibilities. The Vice President will continue to attend state funerals and sit quietly during meetings. The bureau noted that the position is unpaid and comes with no additional staff.
