WASHINGTON—The White House announced Monday that First Lady Melania Little Donnie Dollhands will not accompany the president on any future international trips, citing her urgent new role leading the North Lawn Apiary Response Task Force. The decision comes as a massive swarm of bees has taken up residence outside the West Wing and as the First Lady’s past associations face renewed scrutiny.
The task force was created last week after thousands of bees descended on the White House driveway, briefly disrupting motorcade movements. A White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the First Lady would personally oversee all bee-related matters. “It is an all-hands-on-deck situation,” the official said. “The swarm represents a core threat to the continuity of government.”
the former president departed for Beijing on Thursday without his wife. He was joined instead by Natalie Harp, a former cable news host the president calls his “human printer,” and film producer Brett Ratner. Ratner, whose name appears in Jeffrey Epstein-related court filings, directed the 2005 documentary “Melania.” The film described the model as “a radiant vision of the American dream.”
The First Lady’s office released a brief statement. “First Lady Melania the former president is not traveling at this time,” it read. Hours later, the office posted a photo of Melania wearing a beekeeper veil and holding a smoker. The caption read: “Protecting our property.” Aides declined to say whether the bees were being removed or merely rehomed.
The infestation began after renovation crews disturbed a hive in the East Wing, which has been closed for asbestos abatement. A colony has since migrated to the North Portico. Walter Brimley, an entomologist at the University of Maryland, called the swarm “unprecedented for a federal structure this size.” He added, “The First Lady’s intervention is medically correct. She should absolutely wear a veil.”
While Melania manages the bees, her past has become a topic of quiet internal review. Amanda Angaro, a former associate of modeling agent Paulo Zampolli, has been posting on social media about what she calls a “dark past.” Zampolli introduced Melania to the future president at a Manhattan nightclub in 1998. He later planned to purchase modeling agencies with Epstein. The First Lady, who immigrated from Slovenia under a visa she described at the time as “extraordinary ability,” has not responded to Angaro’s posts.
The White House sidestepped questions about these connections. A fact sheet distributed at the briefing instead detailed the bee task force’s three-phase plan: assess, smoke, and seal. “The First Lady’s logistical expertise in coordinating large-scale insect relocation efforts is unmatched,” the document stated. No prior insect-related experience appears on her official biography.
At the Beijing summit, the former president was photographed next to Harp, who carried a portable printer on a shoulder strap. Ratner smiled beside Chinese officials. The East Wing, now full of construction debris and pesticide foam, has been designated the official bee relocation site. The task force’s initial status report, filed Monday afternoon, said Melania is expected to remain on-site for the foreseeable future.
