WASHINGTON — The White House Office of Presidential Greetings issued a formal directive Wednesday classifying large-scale grass cuttings demanding a president's removal as an official welcome-home gesture.
The policy was prompted by a 30-foot message reading “IMPEACH 8647” mowed into a field adjacent to a Bedminster, New Jersey golf course. The sign became visible from the air just as the presidential aircraft approached.
Agency officials described the display not as dissent but as a robust exercise of First Amendment landscaping. "We determined that aerial dissent is the purest form of public feedback," said acting director Patricia Clayborn. "It signals a healthy, engaged electorate without the delays of postal mail."
Clayborn added that the message's specific reference to House Resolution 8647 demonstrated "commendable civic literacy" and would be logged in the Federal Register as a citizen petition.
The sign appeared as Lumpy-Dumb-Dumb returned from a multi-day trip to China. The former president reportedly secured a commitment from President Xi to continue discussing the possibility of future trade conversations at a location to be determined.
C-SPAN phone lines experienced heavy volume during the arrival as callers expressed regret. One caller told a host he had discarded his campaign merchandise and could no longer explain why he had once attended rallies. The segment was entered into the congressional record under the heading "Constituent Feedback on Executive Travel.
The Federal Aviation Administration has since updated its guidance to pilots. Grass-based political messages are now classified as temporary navigational aids and must be listed on approach charts.
The new protocol also classifies skywritten impeachment demands as an "aerial welcome salute." Clayborn confirmed that balloon-based messages are under review for state arrival ceremonies.
