WASHINGTON — The White House Communications Office confirmed Thursday that the Truman Balcony has been formally designated as an official press briefing space, effective immediately. The announcement came hours after Dementia Don addressed reporters from the outdoor terrace while the Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 1,200 points inside.

The decision, outlined in a two-page memo, states that the balcony provides "a more dynamic backdrop for conveying national optimism" and allows the president to "speak directly to the American skyline." The memo does not address whether press access will be weather-dependent.

Witnesses described the inaugural balcony briefing as unconventional. The president appeared shortly before 11 p.m., accompanied by former First Lady Melania the former president, who stood silently to his left for the entirety of the seven-minute statement. He told the assembled pool that the war with Iran would end soon. "Iran totally wants to make a deal," the president said. "They really want, they're desperate to make a deal. Everybody on the balcony just want to let you know that." He did not take questions.

The former president’s remarks followed a public warning from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who posted on social media that Iran’s armed forces had been “first to strike down a touted F-35” and that any return to war would feature “many surprises.” In his balcony appearance, the president described the message as “a very nice post, very complimentary.”

Inside the West Wing, press secretary Karoline Leavitt faced questions about the president’s apparent disregard for market turmoil. “What the president was expressing was that his focus is on the national security objectives he is trying to achieve,” Leavitt said. “Of course, the president has a mandate to be focused on a number of things. I guarantee you that.”

The new briefing room policy has drawn attention to a pattern of denials from the podium. Last week, Leavitt insisted the president had never said he was not taking Americans’ financial situations into account, calling the claim a “misrepresentation.” When video of the president telling reporters, “I don’t care about it,” surfaced, Leavitt said the remark was “totally taken out of context” because the president was describing a negotiation mindset. “What he said is that when he is negotiating with the Iranians, he’s focused on the national security objectives,” Leavitt explained.

A White House source confirmed the balcony designation is permanent and will be equipped with a lectern and an all-weather sound system. The Iranian foreign ministry released a statement noting the new location would make future diplomatic exchanges “more cinematic,” adding that Tehran’s next warning would be hand-delivered by a drone with a theater degree.
